Theo Ijzermans
January 04, 2009
On Friday January 2nd, 2009 Theo IJzermans, a Supervisor and Associate Fellow of the Albert Ellis Institute, unexpectedly passed away. Theo was one of the most prominent members of the Schouten & Nelissen consulting and training community in the Netherlands and has been a great supporter of the Institute over the years. He passed away at the age of 64 while on holiday with his wife Tieneke in Ecuador.
Together with Jan Schouten, Theo wrote books in the series ‘Looking after
Yourself” on subjects such as shyness and assertiveness. With Anne Schouten-van
Hooft he designed and implemented the acclaimed training module “Speaking Effectively
and Relaxed in Public”.
Theo organized many assertiveness training's and was Schouten & Nelissen’s
main liaison with the Albert Ellis Institute where he had trained Theo was
responsible for introducing Albert Ellis’ philosophy and methodologies into
many of Schouten & Nelissen’s course offerings. He published three books
with Schouten & Nelissen’s own publishing house – Thema -, of which “The
Stumbling Blocks of the Mind” is still considered a basic element of many courses.
We are very grateful for Theo’s involvement with the Institute over the years. He will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts are with his wife Tieneke and his two sisters.
