PROGRAM

During the 3-Day Primary Practicum, participants will learn to:

• Understand and apply the REBT theory of emotional disturbance and change.
• Apply the ABC model to a wide range of clinical issues.
• Identify, challenge and dispute clients’ dysfunctional thoughts.
• Construct and teach clients how to have new adaptive thoughts, emotions and behaviors.

Participants will:

• Explain the REBT/CBT theories of emotional disturbance and change
• Apply the ABC model to a large variety of clinical issues
• Identify, challenge and dispute clients dysfunctional thoughts
• Construct and teach clients how to have new adaptive thoughts, emotions and behaviors
• Develop and apply homework protocols for treating anxiety anger and depression, as well as other common presenting problems

Advanced Certificate Practicum

Location: New York City

Professionals will further their knowledge of rational-emotive and cognitive behavior therapy, as well as up-to-date research and clinical applications, and will receive individual supervision in small groups with a certified REBT supervisor.

During the 4-Day Primary Practicum, participants will learn to:

• Describe how to apply REBT to treat couples and common relationship problems
• Apply techniques for disputing irrational beliefs
• Design strategies for working with clients who are resistant
• Assess when to use behavioral & emotional approaches with clients

Participants will receive:

• Live demonstrations of therapy sessions.
• 14 hours of lectures on advanced assessment strategies, case conceptualizations, and intervention skills.
• 12 hours of small group supervised practice of REBT and CBT skills.

Associate Fellowship Practicum

PROGRAM

The Associate Fellowship Certificate Program is the highest level of external training after the Advanced Certificate. Practitioners will deepen their skills through individual supervision of their psychotherapy practice and participation in advanced seminars.

Special Topics Seminars include Child and Family Therapy; REBT with Personality Disorders; Why We Don’t Raise Our Clients’ Self-Esteem; and Strategies for the Resistant Client.

The Supervisory Practicum is only open to Fellows and Associate Fellows of the Institute. A written request to participate must be received at least 3 months in advance of the practicum. Participants will

• Explain the ethical considerations to be made when conducting clinical supervision
• Apply effective strategies for conducting REBT supervision
• Apply the distinctive features of REBT when working with clients to describe qualities of effective REBT therapists
