Chairwork, or imaginal psychotherapeutic dialogues, was a technique that was created by Dr. Jacob Moreno, the creator of Psychodrama. It was made famous through its use by Dr. “Fritz” Perls, the Gestalt Therapy founder, in the Sixties.
Since then, this powerful and compelling intervention has been adopted and further developed by a number of integrative psychotherapists.
Chairwork is now generally used in five overlapping ways: external dialogues, internal dialogues, corrective dialogues, role-playing, and dreamwork. This Transformational Chairwork training combines didactic and experiential techniques to help therapists learn how to apply these techniques with their patients.
Participants will be invited to play the roles of therapist and patients using provided training scripts, material from their clinical practice, or experiences from their personal lives, as they wish, in order to become familiar with the five chairwork paradigms.
